The aquatic plants in a natural swimming pool
The aquatic plants influence the quality of the water in many manners :
- They increase the interior surface of surface water and form great surfaces for the bacteria, the algae and so that the living organisms develop.
- During the day the plants release from oxygen directly in water thanks to photosynthesis. During the night a part of this oxygen is used by the plants themselves.
- The aquatic plants can consume much food which enters water. They transform them into organic substance (biomass). The underwater plants directly compete with the algae for food.
- The aquatic plants have an impact on almost all the chemical values and ensure the quality of water by deadening the negative influences on the pond of bathe.
The ground substrate in which the aquatic plants develop also has an important influence on the quality of water. Here, one is vis-a-vis with a paradox: on the one hand the ground should be rich in food so that the aquatic plants thrive, whereas at the same time it should be weak out of food, to prevent the growth of the algae. However in the pond of bathe, the ground itself can achieve these requests.
The ground rich in food should not be in direct contact with water. It should be covered by a substrate making food available only to the roots of the desired plants. The aquatic plants will thrive only in the gravel.
